I have refrained from commenting about the Olympics, but there have been a few events that stand out so far that I just have to discuss.
USA beat Canada in Men’s Hockey. I know, there are more games to play and a gold medal to win. But this was incredible and completely (in my point of view) unexpected. We have quite a few NJ Devils on the team, and I’m psyched to see the finals!
Sven Kramer losing Olympic gold due to his coach’s error. His coach told Kramer to switch lanes which lead to a disqualification for the front runner. Oops!
Joannie Rochette had a fabulous short program in the figure skating compeition after her mother unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack in Vancouver.
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t expect this year’s Grammys to live up to the hype that I’ve heard over the last week. All of the talk about special performances and secret duets didn’t sound like anything worth staying up for. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of entertainment this year. A few memorable moments include:
Lady Gaga’s performance with Elton John
Pink swinging in the air. I heard Pink say that her performance was “wet” several times over the last few days. This performance was much better than I had expected.
Additionally, Bon Jovi performed for the first time at the Grammys while Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Smoky Robinson and Jennifer Hudson performed a special 3D tribute to Michael Jackson that was followed by a”thank you” from two of Jackon’s children.
With the winter Olympics coming up right around the corner, there is quite a bit of buzz about the athletes who are set to amaze us with their talents. Most notably, Shawn White has been on the news, in the papers, and all over the Internet.
After hearing about his performance in the X Games, I thought it would be smart to check out some of his videos on YouTube. To my surprise, I found this video from Red Bull - apparently the company has built a private half pipe that is secluded so Shawn can practice in private. Hope we get to see some super cool new tricks for the Olympics in Vancouver!!
I don’t know what surprises me more - the fact that Jason Castro got hitched this weekend, or the fact that he has an album coming out. You might remember Jason as the surprise fourth place finisher in the seventh season of American Idol -OR as a young mean with dreadlocks who almost seemed to want his run on the hit show to end with sub-par performances and lack luster excitement from the performer.
According to Reality TV Magazine, Jason Castro proposed to his bride on Halloween and the two were dressed as Beauty and the Beast for the ceremony which took place in Texas over the weekend.
Castro’s five song album - Love Uncompromised - is expected to be released on January 12th.
I have to admit, when I suggested going to the movies this weekend Avatar was on the bottom of my list. Without knowing much about the film, besides the fact that there was a lot of hype about it, I had virtually zero interest in seeing a movie with computer generated characters.
Fast forward 24 hours, and I’ll admit that I was wrong.
The movie has a somewhat original concept (to me at least), and includes some amazing affects and decent actors. Additionally, we were able to see the movie in 3D, which made some of the action scenes incredibly realistic and cool.
The only negative, dare I say, is the length of the film. Two hours and 40 minutes is quite long, and having gone to the 10pm showing I found myself fighting to keep my eyes open at the end.

CNN Entertainment has posted an article saying that the recent break-in at Jon Gosselin’s New York City apartment while he was spending Christmas with his children in PA might be a hoax to frame ex-girlfriend Hailey Glassman.
I’ll let you decide - is Jon a victim, or did he stage a break-in?
Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing John Stamos in Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway. The Bye Bye Birdie musical is a classic story of a teenage heartthrob who is headed off to war, much to the dismay of his adoring female fans.
While the play hasn’t had the best reviews in the press, it was quite enjoyable. With a cast lead by John Stamos and Gina Gershon, the play provides the audience with a fun, colorful, and high energy glimpse into life of the 1960’s.
What can be better than seeing John Stamos on Broadway, you ask? How about some awesome ticket prices. You might have to do a little hunting to find the deals, but we were able to get tickets for just $18 a piece (including fees). Interested? You better hurry! The show’s run ends on January 24th, 2010.
Ok ok, I know it’s old news. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom were married a month ago with lots of controversy and national press coverage. Yet, I couldn’t help but watch the two hour wedding special that aired on E! this weekend.
The glitz, the glam, and the 8 carat ring… oh my! From family fights to Vera Wang gowns, the wedding special didn’t disappoint. But the real shocker? Khloe and Lamar’s wedding was a major success for E! with 3.2 million viewers. I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised since I was a willing participant of the viewing crowd, right? Let’s just hope that Mr. and Mrs. Odom don’t disappoint their fans…
