How to Stay Hydrated

Filed under: Food — Tristan Panasik @ 21:17

We’ve had some record high days here on the East coast, and by record high I mean 100+ degrees.  Now I’m no doctor, but I’m pretty sure this is a key time to make sure you stay hydrated.  Here are my tips to ensure that you stay hydrated during the dog days of summer.

  • Write it down: Every time you finish a glass of water, write it down.  It can be as simple as a chick mark on a post it note or a virtual counter that easily lets you track your water intake.  My favorite is on TheDailyPlate.com.
  • Little bits: Drink small amounts of water more often throughout the day.  I can’t begin to tell you how often I realize an entire work day has gone by and all I had was a glass of water with lunch.  Try to take at least a few sips of water every 15-30 minutes
  • Bottle, not glass: It doesn’t matter if it is a reusable metal Sigg bottle or a plastic Poland Springs bottle, but a bottle with a cap allows you to carry water with you where ever you go.  Whether it is a meeting on the other side of the office or a trip to the Post Office, always keep water with you
  • Eat right: I bet you didn’t realize this, but food contains a lot of water too.  Eat lots of fruit and yogurt throughout the day to help add substance to your regular water consumption routine.
