How to Stay Hydrated

Filed under: Food — Tristan Panasik @ 21:17

We’ve had some record high days here on the East coast, and by record high I mean 100+ degrees.  Now I’m no doctor, but I’m pretty sure this is a key time to make sure you stay hydrated.  Here are my tips to ensure that you stay hydrated during the dog days of summer.

  • Write it down: Every time you finish a glass of water, write it down.  It can be as simple as a chick mark on a post it note or a virtual counter that easily lets you track your water intake.  My favorite is on TheDailyPlate.com.
  • Little bits: Drink small amounts of water more often throughout the day.  I can’t begin to tell you how often I realize an entire work day has gone by and all I had was a glass of water with lunch.  Try to take at least a few sips of water every 15-30 minutes
  • Bottle, not glass: It doesn’t matter if it is a reusable metal Sigg bottle or a plastic Poland Springs bottle, but a bottle with a cap allows you to carry water with you where ever you go.  Whether it is a meeting on the other side of the office or a trip to the Post Office, always keep water with you
  • Eat right: I bet you didn’t realize this, but food contains a lot of water too.  Eat lots of fruit and yogurt throughout the day to help add substance to your regular water consumption routine.

Free KFC

Are you a big fan of KFC?  Here’s a coupon for a free meal (2 pieces of grilled chicken, 2 individual sides, and a biscuit).

Not a fan of KFC?  You should still be interested in this free coupon offer.  Why?  Because Oprah mentioned the deal on her show, and it is currently the #1 trending topic on Twitter.  The coupon has limited download times (from 9am CDT on May 5th to 9:59pm CDT on May 6th), and everyone is talking about it and linking to Oprah’s site referencing the offer.

How’s that for viral??

Dolphins in NJ

A week ago my wonderful boyfriend brought me to dinner at a favorite restaurant of ours – McLoone’s Rum Runner in Sea Bright, NJ.  Always a beautiful setting with tables set along the Shrewsbury River, our latest outing brought about an added thrill – dolphins!  I was so excited that I happily took video on my Sony Cybershot, but now CNN has covered the ‘dolphins in NJ’ story thanks to New 12 NJ.

While adorable and exciting as the dolphins may be, the story is actually a bit sad.  It appears as thought the dolphins are trapped in the Shrewsbury River because they hear noise from nearby bridges and construction which confuses them.  Experts plan to help guide the dolphins to their natural environment, so hurry to McLoone’s (or a nearby establishment) to see the cute dolphins in the Shrewsbury River soon!

Free McDonald’s

Filed under: Food — Tristan Panasik @ 06:34

There’s no better way to my heart than with food, and unfortunately for my ever expanding waist a quick stop at McDonald’s can make me the happiest girl in the world.  So last night I was beyond excited (and just a little bit shocked that I hadn’t heard this on my own earlier…) to hear that McDonald’s was giving away free chicken biscuit breakfast sandwiches from 7-10:30am this morning when you purchase a drink.  The same deal goes to promote McDonalds’ new chicken sandwich from 10:30am – 7pm.

Now if I can only find a McDonald’s on my way to work this morning!

The Flake that Saved America

In a purchase that should ease concerns about the declining value of the dollar, a cornflake in the shape of The Prairie State has sold on eBay for the bargain price of $1350.

Whether you are looking to pay off a mortgage, take a well-deserved vacation, or just trying to save a little nest egg for when you next need to post bond, your financial desires can be fulfilled at your local QuickChek. Not through risky lottery tickets, but good old-fashioned cereal windfall. Take a look at these current price comparisons:

 1 troy ounce of gold – $916.35
 1 barrel of oil (crude) – $101.84
 1 cornflake, state shaped – $1350.00

Apparently, this type of cornflake generates it’s own cottage industry, consisting of:

a) The hapless, unsuspecting cornflake maker. Likely a poor corporation like Kellogg (NYSE: K) that is forced to sell their product at pennies per flake.

b) Grizzled prospectors sifting through cornflake boxes, searching for recognizable cornflakes.

c) Venture Capitalists tired of risky emerging technologies, seeking the safe haven of cornflakes. They will purchase the cornflakes at high prices in hopes to attract:

d) People who will go to traveling museums to view valuable cornflakes.

If you would like to view this particular cornflake, but cannot afford to attend these traveling museums, you can click this link to view the cornflake. I assure you, these museums will keep the precious art behind impenetrable velvet ropes, and smudge-proof glass encasings, so you won’t lose too much of the “real-life” experience just clicking the link. Alternately, you can look at a map of the United States, point to Illinois, and envisualize it as a cornflake.

Philly

Filed under: Food — Tristan Panasik @ 23:34

A couple of weeks ago I had my very first Philly cheesesteak… in Philly.  I know, hard to believe for a food connoisseur like me, right?  For those of you who are ignorant about actual Philly cheesesteaks (like I had been…) they actually put cheese whiz on your sandwich.  Yes, I said “cheese whiz“!  The hard part is picking which of the “best cheesesteaks ever” establishments to visit.  I was lucky enough to go to Jim’s Steaks, which has to be the best based on its walls lined with celebrity endorsements such as the one below by “Demzel” Washington.
